What is Unitarian Universalism?
Unitarian Universalism (UU) is a liberal religious tradition that welcomes people with a wide variety of beliefs. We don’t require members to share a particular creed or belief in a specific religion. Instead, we come together around shared values such as love, justice, compassion, curiosity, and respect for the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
Do I have to be a Unitarian Universalist to attend?
Not at all! Everyone is welcome at our Sunday services. You don’t have to be a member, a UU, or even know much about Unitarian Universalism. Come as you are and see what we’re about.
What happens at a Sunday service?
Our Sunday services generally include music, hymns, readings, reflection or a sermon, and opportunities for community connection. Topics may be religious, spiritual, ethical, social justice-related, or simply about the challenges and joys of everyday life.
Services are usually about an hour and are followed by coffee hour, when everyone is invited to stay, enjoy some refreshments, and get to know one another.
Can I attend the service online?
Yes! We offer a Zoom option for those who can't attend in person or simply prefer to participate from home. Click Here for Zoom
What should I wear?
Whatever makes you comfortable! You’ll see people dressed in everything from casual clothes to more formal attire. There’s no dress code.
Do I have to believe in God?
No. Unitarian Universalists hold many different beliefs. Some people believe in God, some are agnostic or atheist, and others draw inspiration from many different religious and philosophical traditions. We make room for people to explore their own beliefs and questions.
Where can I park?
We have a small parking lot, but spaces can fill up quickly. Free street parking is also available in the neighborhood. If you’re attending for the first time, we recommend arriving a few minutes early to give yourself time to find a spot.
Do you welcome people of all faiths and beliefs?
Yes. We believe that people can find meaning and wisdom in many different traditions. You are welcome whether you have a strong religious faith, an evolving spirituality, no religious beliefs, or simply a lot of questions.
What about LGBTQ+ people and families?
Everyone is welcome here. We strive to be a community where people can be their full selves and where LGBTQ+ people and families are welcomed, respected, and celebrated.
Do I have to become a member?
No. You can participate in our community for as long as you like without becoming a member. Membership is available for those who decide they would like to make a deeper commitment to the congregation.
How do I become a member?
There’s no complicated process. Start by attending services and getting to know us. When you’re ready, we can talk with you about what membership means and how to take that next step.
Do you take an offering?
Yes. We generally take an offering during Sunday services. Guests are never expected to contribute. If you would like to support our congregation, you are welcome to participate, but there is absolutely no obligation.
Can I attend if I’m just curious?
Absolutely. In fact, curiosity is a pretty good reason to visit a UU congregation!
